Forget the former things ; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up ; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert, streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals, the owls, because I will provide water in the desert, streams in the wasteland to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.
Everybody.... happy new year! This time I bless you in the name of our God heavenly Father. God will make you great! God will fill you all you need through this year! God will guide you, protect you, and God will show you the way to a good future! This time I want to share with you something new God will make for us through this year. Let us open the book of Isaiah 43:18-21. If it is possible I recommend you to memorize this Bible scripture all.
Anyway first of all let us read these verses. As you know we can learn many things from our history. So our children have history subject in their school. But some time our personal history can be a stumbling stone in many way. Not in every way, but in many way we can be influenced badly by our past. For example... if some player has never experienced championship in his game, he also seems not to get championship at the next game because he will think of the former games. Because of the former games he limit his capacity or his potentiality. 'Oh... my capacity is up to here. I can not go anymore.' Also spiritually it is same. If we were sinful place yesterday we can easily be influenced by that. Why we can not have good help from our past? It's because of Satan. Satan always uses our past in bad way in treating us. Satan uses negative things of our past when he tempt us. He may say like this. 'There is nothing special in your life. Yesterday, today, tomorrow... always the same! Because you were a lier yesterday you will be a lier too, tomorrow. Because you were idle yesterday you will be idle too, tomorrow. Because you were a sinner yesterday you will be a sinner, too tomorrow. Such as this many people are captured by their past.
So what does the Bible say about this? There is an answer in verse 18. "Forget the former things! Don't dwell on the past!" The Bible says us that we should forget our former things. We have a happy new year now, even though seven days already have passed away. God says us we should forget no good things that happened when we had relationship with others through last year. We should forget our failure of last year. We should forget our sins we committed through last year if we already repented to God. You know, our religion is the religion of departure ; departure from our past sinful lives, departure from our past evil habits, departure from our past failure.
God had asked to Our forefather Abraham. "Leave your country, your people and your father's households and go to the land I will show you. And I will bless you. I will make you into a great nation. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you. I will curse those who curse you. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
Wow woo! It's really amazing promise to Abraham. By the way.... why did God ask Abraham to leave his country, his people, his father's household? It's because all the things he had to leave were very harmful to him spiritually. So God asked Abraham to leave them. So Abraham obeyed to God and God's promise fulfilled to Abraham.
We are also Abraham's descendants and today again God says to us. 'Forget the former things ; do not dwell on the past. Leave your past.' We should forget all bad things that happened through last year. Then we can see or expect what God is doing for us through this year 2017. Continually verse 20 says like this...
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up ; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert, streams in the wasteland."
First of all... the Bible ask us to see what God will do for us. God will do a new thing. No... already God is doing a new thing for us. He will make a way in the desert. He will make streams in the wasteland. All these words mean that God is doing a new thing... jumping over our limitation we have lined in our personal life. Do you know this worship song? 'God will make a way where there seems to be no way'
God will make a way where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we can not see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide, holds me closely to his side
with love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, he will make a way.
By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today.
If you have this song... after I finish my preaching let us sing together. Anyway... forget all the bad things that happened through last year. Don't dwell on the year of 2016. Leave it. Then you can see and expect what God is doing a new thing. Let us pray together.
[prayer]
Heavenly Father we thank you for giving us a new year. Through last year you had been guiding us, protecting us and providing us with every good things. We confess that you had been so good to us. Yes, Lord... you had been so good to us. So this time we exalt your name and we proclaim your praise. Father, as you did many things last year, we believe you already start to do new things for us this year. As you commanded us to forget the year of 2016 we will not dwell any more on the year and we will see what you are doing for us. This time I pray for Peace River Church. Bless Peace River Church into the church of every nation. So all the love and all the peace and all the power may be overflowing from this church. So every problem may be solved and every sick person may be healed by your holy spirit. Jesus' name I pray.
